Redknapp claims Spurs have gone ‘backwards’ under Mourinho

Harry Redknapp claims Tottenham have gone “backwards” in the last year and insists boss Jose Mourinho has a “big job” to do this summer if he is to reverse the club’s fortunes.

Having received an immediate boost following Mourinho‘s appointment, Spurs’ good fortune has worn off and Tuesday’s defeat to RB Leipzig – their fifth in six games – saw them crash out of the Champions League.

Tottenham‘s poor form has also put them in eighth in the Premier League table and they face a stern battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Redknapp insisted that a strong summer on the transfer front could put his former club back on track ahead of next season.

“They’ve got a bit of work to do to get back to where they were a few years ago,” the 73-year-old said.

“The last year or so they have gone backwards quite a way in all honesty – Jose has a big job to do in the summer.

“He needs some good recruitment, a couple of new players and see where they go next year.”
