Hartlepool defender Christian Burgess will return to contention for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie against Rotherham.
Burgess, on loan from Middlesbrough, missed the weekend FA Cup win against Notts County due to suspension.
Manager Colin Cooper must decide whether to retain Sam Collins in defence or recall Burgess as his side look to secure an eighth win from their last nine matches.
Cooper has no new injury or suspension concerns, while winger Jack Compton, back on the bench at the weekend following suspension, and Antony Sweeney are among those pushing for recalls to the starting line-up.
Rotherham boss Steve Evans is likely to make the maximum number changes for his side’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy trip to Hartlepool.
Football League rules stipulate a team can make no more than five changes from their last league game and Evans will make the most of that by giving his fringe players a run out.
Defender Kari Arnason is suspended following his fifth booking of the season in Saturday’s FA Cup win over Bradford, though he would not have featured anyway as he prepares to head off for Iceland’s World Cup play-off with Croatia.
Evans has hinted midfielder Michael O’Connor will not play after his withdrawal from Northern Ireland’s squad while David Worrall has a virus.
