Henry names the player ‘ahead’ of Salah on ‘current form’

Thierry Henry has suggested that Mohamed Salah is not the best in the world “yet” as Real Madrid star Karim Benzema is “ahead” of him.

The Liverpool star has been lauded in recent weeks. He has made a superb start to the season as he has netted twelve goals and four assists from his eleven outings across all competitions.

Salah was at the forefront again on Tuesday night as he scored twice as Liverpool beat Atletico Madrid 3-2 in the Champions League group stages.

At the start of this season, Salah has become Liverpool’s first player to score in nine consecutive games.

Earlier this month, Jurgen Klopp suggested that Salah “is the best” player in the world:

“His performance was massive today. The pass for the first goal was great and the second goal was special. He is top. We all see it. Who is better than him? We don’t have to talk about what Messi and Ronaldo have done for world football and their dominance. But right now, he is the best.”

Henry has disagreed with Klopp. In an interview cited by the Liverpool Echo, he claimed that Benzema is “ahead” of Salah.

He said: “The goals that he is scoring, at the moment, are very good. But how can you forget about Lewandowski? How can you forget about Benzema? How can you forget doing it at the national level also?

“Right now, he’s suffering a bit with Egypt. It’s not easy. But he’s not doing in there yet. But those goals are ridiculous. I love Salah. But he’s not yet the best.

“Is he the best player right now in the Premier League? By a distance. On current form are you not putting Benzema there right now, with the way he is playing? What he is doing for France and at the Euros? It’s not that clear, for me.

“This is why Benzema is ahead because he has been a complete player, with goals for a long time.

“Salah is becoming a good (complete) player (now), not only a great goalscorer.”
