Hoddle and Rio blast Spurs: ‘They’ve been found out’

Glenn Hoddle believes Tottenham “are getting found out” after they exited the Champions League.

A 2-1 defeat to Monaco on Tuesday evening means that Tottenham cannot advance from their group in Europe’s top competition, with the Europa League awaiting them.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were abject throughout, and it is a huge blow to his project at White Hart Lane.

“There was no passion there tonight, I think there are too many players floating along there, not finding their best form,” Hoddle told BT Sport.

“They have got to do something about it, they are all looking at each other instead of saying, I am going to be the one to change this team.

“It needs to be better defensively, today they were awful defensively, but even with the ball they were poor.

“They haven’t got the kind of substitutes they had last season, the squad at the moment looks a bit thin, there isn’t anyone who can be a game changer coming on from the bench.

“There are players who perhaps look better who are not starting, Son started today and was way off it. Too many players well below par.

“We’ve always said how Lloris has played so well this season, it’s alright getting clean sheets if you come off and think the goalie has had to make one save, but he is making save after save, now they are getting found out. You can’t keep doing that for too long.”

Hoddle’s fellow BT pundit Rio Ferdinand joined the chorus of criticism.

“It was an abject display, they didn’t look like they even wanted to be there,” said the former Manchester United defender.

“There was no intensity in their play, totally outplayed, outmuscled, outworked by this Monaco team.

“They look a shadow of themselves from last season, last season you would never have seen a Tottenham team get overpowered like this, get outrun. They did not have any ideas here tonight.”
