Glenn Hoddle has suggested that Man City or Man United will not be paying £150m for Harry Kane, but they may be able to get him for less than that.
Kane has been heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham. This came after he asked to leave the club. He cited his desire to win team trophies as the main reason for him wanting to leave.
It is believed that Kane will cost around £150m this summer. Pep Guardiola’s side are keen to offer Tottenham two players plus-cash for Kane.
Hoddle has told The Daily Mirror that Kane’s exit from Spurs is not a “done and dusted” deal:
“I don’t think anyone’s going to cough up £150million, I think they could cough up £100million plus two players, if it’s Manchester City, Manchester United, whoever.
“That deal isn’t an easy done and dusted deal when you’ve got three years left on your contract; he might still be at Tottenham.
“Then again, Tottenham may feel he’s 28 in the summer and might think, ‘We’ve got to cash in now’, because when he’s 29 and going to the World Cup [next year], they’re not going to have that kind of offer.
“As a Spurs man, I hope he doesn’t go, but if he does go, I wish him well.”
Alan Shearer and Micah Richards have recently discussed Kane’s value/longevity. Shearer has insisted that with the forward, you are “guaranteed” four or five years of goals:
“If you’re talking financial-wise then because of the age of Haaland, you would get more for your money in terms of longevity.
“You know what you’re going to get with Harry, certainly in the Premier League – he’s done it for a number of years, there’s no concern from that point of view, so you’re almost guaranteed goals for the next four or five years.
“But with Haaland, you’re thinking it could be eight or nine years, couldn’t it? And then there’s a sell-on value as well.”
Richards then insisted that £150m is too much to pay for Kane: “He [Levy] is going to want £150m-plus realistically – I’m not spending that on Kane. Not a chance.”
