Houssem Aouar has spoken out over his failed proposed transfer to Arsenal this summer.
Mikel Arteta was keen to add the creative midfielder to his ranks, but an initial bid was rejected by Lyon and Aouar announced he would be staying in France.
The Gunners instead left it very late to trigger Thomas Partey’s £45million release clause, which left Atletico Madrid less than happy.
Aouar made his France debut on Tuesday, starting in the 7-1 thrashing of Ukraine, and has since been asked about whether he was happy in Lyon, despite the courting from Arsenal.
Houssem Aouar has opened up about his failed transfer to Arsenal in the transfer window.
“I am in the headspace to have a great season with my club and get back the points that we have lost,” he said.
“So of course we are going to try to do the best season and to try to put the team and the club back in its rightful place, at the top of France.
“Disappointed? I am the opposite.
“I am at home, in the club that I love, with my friends and my family.
“So certainly I have all my bearings and it is giving me even more motivation to have a good season and to bring the club back into the top places in France.”
