Everton news: Toffees can expect roller-coaster start under new boss Frank Lampard

Everton have finally got their man, but should fans expect a quick turnaround in form under Frank Lampard? We take a look at his early record at Chelsea and Derby.

Lampard arrives at Goodison Park with the club sitting just four points above the relegation zone and in a dreadful run of form.

Lifting Everton out of their current slump will take some doing, yet many fans are excited about the future under the stewardship of the Premier League legend.

Considering the club's precarious position in the table, it's vital for Lampard to make a good start to prevent the Toffees being dragged into a relegation scrap.

However, what exactly are the chances of the 43-year-old getting off on the right foot? Here, we take a look at Lampard's first 10 games in charge of Chelsea and Derby.

Lampard's first 10 games at Chelsea

Wins: 4

Draws: 2

Losses: 4

Goals scored: 23

Goals conceded: 17

Lampard's first game in charge of Chelsea was meant to be a historic occasion. Instead, the club legend endured a nightmare evening as his men were blown away in a 4-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.

A match against Liverpool quickly followed as the Blues looked to claim the UEFA Super Cup. However, despite holding the Reds to a 2-2 draw, Chelsea ultimately fell to a 5-4 defeat on penalties.

Lampard's losing run ended four days later as his first home game finished in a 1-1 draw against Leicester.

A week on, the new manager enjoyed another milestone as he recorded his first win - a 3-2 victory over Norwich at Carrow Road.

Chelsea looked on course to record back-to-back wins when they took a 2-0 first-half lead against Sheffield United. However, the Blues spectacularly fell apart after the interval as the Blades bagged two goals to take a point back to South Yorkshire.
Lampard went with a back four in his opening five games but decided to switch thing around for the trip to Wolves.

Chelsea lined-up with a 3-4-2-1 formation and it paid dividends as the Blues thrashed their opponents 5-2 =at Molineux. Still, the fact they conceded two goals underlined his team's defensive vulnerabilities.

Lampard's managerial bow in the Champions League came next as Chelsea hosted Valencia at Stamford Bridge.

Unfortunately for the former European Cup winner, his men were beaten 1-0 as Ross Barkley failed to convert a late penalty to salvage a draw.

The Blues returned to league action with a home game against Liverpool - a chance to avenge their UEFA Super Cup defeat. Instead, a nightmare first-half saw the hosts fall 2-0 down inside 30 minutes.

Despite N'Golo Kante's second-half strike, Chelsea had to endure their second straight defeat.

Lampard finally got some respite when his men obliterated Grimsby Town 7-1 in the EFL Cup. A 2-0 win over Brighton followed as Chelsea went on a seven-match unbeaten run.

First 10 games at Derby

Wins: 6

Draws: 1

Losses: 3

Goals scored: 16

Goals conceded: 9

Lampard's first 10 games at Derby were far less of a whirlwind experience than at Chelsea, although the level of opposition has to be taken into consideration.

His debut in management came against Reading at the Madejski Stadium and, after the first 50 minutes, there was very little to shout about.

Derby found themselves 1-0 down but rallied as Mason Mount conjured up a quick equaliser. There was more drama to come as Tom Lawrence produced a stoppage-time winner to mark Lampard's debut with all three points.

A home clash with Leeds followed and the 43-year-old received a lesson in management as Marcelo Bielsa's side put the Rams to the sword, winning 4-1.

Derby bounced back with a 2-0 win over Oldham in the EFL Cup, but suffered a second league defeat when they travelled to Millwall four days later.

Lampard tinkered with his formation and was rewarded with four straight victories against Ipswich, Preston and Hull (twice).
His winning run ended away at Rotherham as his side were beaten 1-0 in South Yorkshire. Three days later, the Rams were held to a goalless draw with Blackburn.

First 10 games at Everton

Before setting his sights on the Premier League, Lampard's Everton debut will come in the FA Cup as his men take on Brentford.

With the Bees in poor form, it does appear to be a good opportunity for the new boss to kick start his tenure with a morale-boosting win.

Three important games with Newcastle, Leeds and Southampton will follow before Lampard takes on his old employers, Manchester City.
If past records at Chelsea and Derby are anything to go by, we can expect the new Everton manager to enjoy a wild start at Goodison Park.

Defensive issues at Everton are prevalent and Lampard doesn't exactly boast a good record when it comes to tightening up at the back. Then again, his previous jobs underline his ability to get goals out of teams in the early parts of his tenure.

Here are the first 10 games for the new Toffees boss…
