How long will Mourinho last at Manchester United?

It has been a summer of discontent at Old Trafford which has all be down to the attitude of the manager. All the bookies have slashed the odds of Mourinho been fired and you can find the latest odds and bonus with Mr Green here.

It is hard to listen to one of his speeches recently without wanting to jump off the nearest bridge due to the negativity. The “Special One” should take notice from Mauricio Pochettino who has suffered from zero signings and a new stadium delay but is still extremely positive along with upbeat about the situation.

Since arriving at Old Trafford Mourinho has spent nearly 400 million buying new players and yet he is still not content. The squad looks like one of the weakest we have seen in a very long time and is unbalanced. The problem has been recruitment with Mourinho always demanding the finished product and not using managerial skills to develop young exciting prospects. If you look at Manchester City they invested heavily in young stars and thanks to the amazing managerial skills of Pep Guardiola they have been able to reach their potential.

The recent defeat against Brighton was so devastating it has left many pundits in shock as to how badly Man U played. If they do not improve for their next match against Spurs, they could be on the end of a hammering; especially now Kane has broken his August duck. It is a massive game between the two clubs both chasing a top four place and possible title challenge. If Tottenham is able to win, the pressure on Mourinho will become huge and could lead to a player mutiny that he found himself involved in before he was fired by Chelsea.

The Manchester United board have already had to come out in support of Mourinho and we have only played two matches. The Red Devils cannot afford back to back losses as it will increase the pressure on both manager and players which may mean cracks start appearing. If Jose loses the dressing room, there is no way that his team will finish in the Champions League qualification places this campaign. If they fail to achieve that it is hard to see the club stand by him for one more season.

It is likely that a decision on the manager’s future will be made after the busy Xmas period. If United are in the bottom half of the table it is hard to see Mourinho keeping his job in the New Year. An interim manager may be required to see the campaign out so that a brand new plan can be formulated as the present model has failed. It is going to take mountains of investment along with many years to catch Man City who have been far cleverer in their approach and is now benefiting greatly from it.

The first thing that Mourinho need to do is to fix his relationship with Paul Pogba. Without his star player on board, the team does not stand a chance of competing at the highest level so it is vital it is sorted out asap. If it is not one of them has to go and if a fan vote was cast right now, it would probably be Mourinho they would choose to show the exit door.
