Alexis Sanchez received a huge pay out as he left Man Utd on a free transfer to join Serie A side Inter Milan, according to reports.

Sanchez joined Man Utd in a part-exchange deal from Arsenal, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan moving the other way. But the forward struggled immensely at Old Trafford, scoring just five goals for the club in 45 appearances.

Inter chief executive Giuseppe Marotta and Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed the transfer on Thursday with Sanchez moving to the San Siro on a free transfer.

And the Daily Mail claim that United paid £9m to the Chilean with Sanchez having two years left to run on his deal at Old Trafford, where he was on a reported £560,000 a week.

It is understood that the Red Devils are ‘very satisfied’ with the outcome as Sanchez signed a three-year contract at Inter worth £130,000 a week.

Despite paying £9m for Sanchez to leave, Man Utd would have forked out £50m over the remaining two years on his deal and they have now freed up a large chunk of their wage budget.

On Sanchez’s departure, Solskjaer said: “Wish him all the best. He’s a top player that we want to see play his best football. For whatever reason, we didn’t see the best of Alexis but he’s a top professional and we just wish him all the best.”
