Inter wait for ‘important’ Man Utd bid as Ten Hag picks position he ‘wants to strengthen’

Denzel Dumfries’ agent is working hard to secure an exit from Inter Milan amidst interest from Manchester United, according to reports.

The Netherlands international has been strongly linked with United for a while and was also believed to be a top target for Chelsea.

The Blues signed Malo Gusto from Lyon last month so are probably no longer in the running to sign the Inter right-wing-back.

Erik ten Hag’s side are believed to be on the lookout for a new right-sided defender, though Aaron Wan-Bissaka has impressed in recent weeks and Diogo Dalot had a very strong 2022.

Having said that, Dalot is definitely a player that can be upgraded and Dumfries has shown in the Champions League with Inter and at international tournaments with the Netherlands that he would suit the Premier League.

As an out-and-out right-back, the 26-year-old could perhaps be exposed, but his ability to maraud up and down the flank as a wing-back is clear to see.

Minutes have surprisingly been hard to come by for Dumfries since the domestic season resumed following the World Cup in Qatar.

Admittedly, Dumfries has started – albeit without finishing – both matches in the Coppa Italia, but has been an unused substitute in three of Inter’s six Serie A encounters.

In the other three games, the Dutch defender has only started one – the win at Cremonese – and was brought off the bench late on in the other two.

Despite a lack of minutes in recent weeks, Dumfries remains linked with a move to Old Trafford.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), the player’s agent is working on his Inter departure with the Red Devils ‘launching several signals of openness’ to sign him.

Dumfries is apparently ‘on his way out’ of the Nerazzurri and his representatives have ‘already intensified contacts’ with United after talks during the winter transfer window.

Ten Hag ‘wants to strengthen’ in right-back as he chops and changes between Wan-Bissaka and Dalot – who started at Leeds United on Sunday afternoon.

Amidst interest from the Premier League giants, Inter are waiting for ‘eventual important offers’ to come in.

Inter, obviously, want to receive a fee that matches his value and will not let him go on the cheap. According to Transfermarkt, Dumfries is worth €28million (£24.8m).

However, the report states that Milan value their right-wing-back closer to €50m and won’t be willing to accept ‘technical quid pro quos’, like a player being offered in a swap deal.

The player’s agent is ‘working hard’ to ensure United lodge a ‘big offer’.

Should Dumfries depart, it is said that the Italian club would look to sign Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui, who will probably only be available should the Bundesliga champions permanently sign Joao Cancelo from Manchester City.
