‘It’s unarguable!’ – Jordan claims Klopp beats ‘chequebook boss’ Guardiola
Ex-Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has suggested that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is better than “chequebook boss” Pep Guardiola.
Liverpool and Manchester City have been the standout teams in the Premier League over the past few years.
The last time someone else won the league was in 2016/17 as Chelsea finished seven points clear to lift the title.
Two-legged Champions League ties should be next for UEFA axe
Man City and Liverpool are currently first and second in the table respectively. If the latter win their remaining game in hand they will close in to within six points of City.
Guardiola has lifted every domestic trophy with City, but he is yet to win the Champions League. They were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea in last season’s final.
Klopp meanwhile is yet to win a domestic cup in England but he has guided Liverpool to the Premier League and Champions League.
They can win the Carabao Cup for the first time later this month. They face Chelsea in the final at Wembley.
Jordan has pointed out that Guardiola has been helped by City’s transfer funds:
“If you take the time they’ve been together, the fact of the matter is that every single Premier League point that’s been won by Guardiola has cost Manchester City £667,000,” Jordan told talkSPORT.
“Every point that’s been won by Liverpool under Klopp has cost Liverpool £243,000. So Guardiola has spent almost three times the amount of money that Klopp has spent.
“Klopp took over a side that were disappointed after losing out on the Premier League and were in disarray after Brendan Rodgers lost his way in that 2014/15 season.
“You’ve got to compare and contrast. If you compare the times they’ve been there, Guardiola has spent three times the amount of money, fact.
“If you gave Klopp £667,000 per point won in the Premier League in the six years he’s been there he may well be in the same situation as Guardiola was in because Guardiola is a chequebook manager. It’s unarguable!”
Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool are “strong favourites” to beat Inter Milan over two legs in their Champions League last 16 tie.
Inter are without numerous key players for the visit of Liverpool. Joaquin Correa and Robin Gosens continue to recover from injuries whilst Nico Barella is suspended.
Nerazzurri boss Simone Inzaghi has ex-Premier League stars Edin Dzeko and Alexis Sanchez at his disposal. The former is expected to start up front with Lautaro Martinez:
“I’m excited about the tie,” Carragher told CBS Sports (quotes via Metro).
“I think that’s the real big game of the night and one of the biggest ones of this round.
“But Liverpool and I think Premier League teams now, when they come up against Italian teams, are strong favourites.”
