The centre-half missed Saturday’s 3-0 win at MK Dons with a hamstring tweak but Pardew expects him to be available again.
The news is not so good for fellow defender Wayne Thomas, who will miss the Pools game and Sunday’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final showpiece at Wembley after tearing his calf in training.
Thomas has been filling in at right-back recently with Jon Otsemebor and Graeme Murty (both ankle) sidelined, so left-back Dan Harding was forced to switch flanks on Saturday.
Midfielder Lloyd James (ankle), who can also play at right-back, returned on the bench against the Dons and provides another option.
Striker David Connolly recovered from a groin injury to appear as late substitute and should be involved again.
