Pundit Jamie Carragher has sung the praises of Brighton star Yves Bissouma and thinks the midfielder will leave for ‘top dollar’.

He joined the Seagulls from Lille in 2018 for a £15.2million fee.

Bissouma has since become a standout performer at the Amex Stadium under Graham Potter.

OPINION: VAR sideshow detracts, distracts from moments of excellence

His great performances this season have led to interest from heavy-hitters Manchester United and Arsenal.

Liverpool have also been linked as they prepare for life without Dutchman Gini Wijnaldum.

Following Brighton’s 0-0 draw with Everton on Monday, Carragher waxed lyrical about Bissouma.

Speaking on Sky Sports (via Daily Mail), the former defender said: “The biggest talking point from the game was Bissouma, who was man of the match and the best player by a mile on the pitch.

“He really does look like a top-quality player. He was excellent at Old Trafford for Brighton and he just looked head and shoulders above everyone on the pitch [against Everton].

“He’s been someone a lot of teams have talked about or looked at. I don’t think teams will be looking at him, I think they will be bidding for him at the end of the season.

“I know Brighton fans will be watching and saying, ‘why are you trying to sell one of our players?’

“He’s got a couple of years to go [on his contract]. You’re at that stage where you either sign a new contract or Brighton get top dollar for him, and I think you would get top dollar for him, that is the model.”

Brighton would likely accept an offer in the region of £30million for Bissouma. That makes him a cheaper alternative to Liverpool’s other targets, including Sander Berge of Sheffield United and Ajax’s Ryan Gravenberch.

Potter believes his player has the potential to excel in Europe’s elite competition.

Speaking about Bissouma earlier in the season, the manager said: “He’s got that quality (to play in the Champions League), he’s got those attributes that you need at that level.

“It’s about him being consistent enough to do that. I think he’s made steps with that but there’s still more to do and more to come.

“It’s just nice for Yves that he’s taken a step forward.”
