Pundit Jamie Carragher says a ‘lack of quality’ for Man Utd up front is letting down manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Red Devils are currently second in the Premier League, eight points behind rivals Man City.

They are the top scoring team in the division, although their forwards have come in for criticism this season.

Man Utd have scored just one goal against the other ‘big six’ teams this campaign.

Their most recent result was a 0-0 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking about the Man Utd attack, Carragher said (via Express): “In the final third they just didn’t have that quality. For me yeah [that is the big issue].

“I wouldn’t describe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as a defensive manager, I know those results look like that and maybe with other managers we would.

“But this is a guy who’s played for United in those types of teams, I don’t recognise him as that type of manager.

“Right now I actually think it is a quality issue.”

Forward Anthony Martial received criticism from fellow pundit Alan Shearer recently.

He said Martial had demonstrated a ‘lack of desire’ for getting in the box and scoring goals this term.

The Frenchman has registered just four goals in 21 league appearances so far.

Martial has revealed his intention of being United’s main centre forward, but he needs to start scoring more to justify his place.

Edinson Cavani is Solskjaer’s other option in the position.

Since joining on a free transfer in the summer, he’s scored six goals in 17 league matches.

That return is below the high standards which Cavani has set over his hugely successful career.

United could turn to the summer transfer market to solve their problems in attack.

Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland is thought to be their main target.

Solskjaer recently revealed that he is in regular contact with Haaland, sparking rumours of a potential bid.
