Lingard: ‘Only right’ not to celebrate goal against West Ham
Jesse Lingard has thanked West Ham fans for the ‘great reception’ he received at the London Stadium on Sunday.
The England international scored against his former club as Man Utd ran out 2-1 winners in the Premier League.
Said Benrahma gave David Moyes’ side the lead in the 30th minute, only for Cristiano Ronaldo to equalise soon after.

Lingard then came off the bench to score a great goal against the team he played for on loan last season.
There was penalty drama in injury time as an Andriy Yarmolenko cross hit Luke Shaw’s arm.
Mark Noble came off the bench for the spot-kick but saw it saved by David De Gea.
When asked about his muted celebration, Lingard told MUTV: “They supported me in the loan spell and gave me a great reception, so it was only right to pay them back.
“It was a great reception from the West Ham fans. I had a brilliant time here, but I had to do my bit.”
His strike was redemption after the player gave away a goal in midweek against Young Boys.
The 28-year-old played a backpass without looking, allowing Theoson Siebatcheu to score a 95th-minute winner.
“That’s football. It’s the highs and lows of football, and the lads and the staff and fans have been behind me all week and it was great to get minutes and come on,” Lingard added.
The victory against West Ham put Man Utd on 13 points from five games. They are sat third in the table, behind Chelsea and Liverpool.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that Lingard will start against the Hammers when the two teams play on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup.
“The main aim is to obviously win a trophy this season and I think we’ve got the squad depth to do that,” Lingard continued.
“Everyone’s hungry to play and everyone’s working hard in training to get in that matchday squad.
“Everyone’s always ready to play, so the subs have got to be ready to make a difference.
“They’re always tough games against West Ham and to play them back to back is a little bit different, but we’ll go into that game full of confidence.”
