John Barnes thinks Southampton striker Danny Ings would be the wrong signing for Man City as they look to bring in a goalscorer this summer.
Ings is just one name being linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium with Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku another mooted recently.
The Saints man has scored 30 goals in the last two Premier League seasons and is a name mentioned as City look to acquire ‘two new forwards’.
The report added that Man City ‘could look at ‘sending players in the opposite direction as part of the package’ rather than actually paying a sizeable transfer fee for Ings.
However, former Liverpool star Barnes doubts that Ings would be able to fit into Man City’s style of play.
Barnes told BonusCodeBets: “Manchester City do need to bring in a striker in the summer transfer window, but Danny Ings isn’t the right player for that role as he’s not played the right kind of football to be the perfect fit for them, despite him being a great goal scorer.
“Manchester City play a very intricate game. Would he be part of a fluent Manchester City team instead of just being a goal scorer?
“If he can’t fit into the unique way that City play, then it won’t work. I’m surprised the link between them (Manchester City), and Danny Ings is there, because I don’t see him as a Manchester City player.
“It takes more than just goals to fit into Manchester City, you have to be fit into a particular type of play and be a particular type of player.”
