Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa shouts instructions

Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan claims he doesn’t “fear” for Leeds United this season and expects them to “finish mid-table”.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side were destroyed 7-0 by Manchester City on Tuesday night with a brace from Kevin de Bruyne and further goals from Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez, John Stones and Nathan Ake securing the points for the Citizens.

Leeds mustered six shots to the champions 31 attempts and the Yorkshire club have now only won two of their last 11 fixtures in all competitions.

Leeds’ best hope of revival still lies with Bielsa

Bielsa is missing a number of his key players through injury with Kalvin Phillips, Liam Cooper, Patrick Bamford, Rodrigo Moreno, Robin Koch and Pascal Struijk all absent for the match against City.

Leeds are still five points away from the relegation zone but that could change tonight as survival rivals Burnley and Watford clash at Turf Moor.

But Jordan doesn’t think Leeds will still be in relegation trouble towards the end of the season and has compared them to Crystal Palace.

“I do not fear for them [Leeds] in any way, shape or form,” Jordan told talkSPORT.

“To some extent I’m quite pleased because I think this bowing at the temple of Bielsa was getting a little too much for me. And I think that ultimately everybody finds their level. The reasons why he’s managed at a certain level, besides the Argentinian side, is because he operates at a certain level.

“We all know he’s a brilliant coach but he isn’t the second coming. He isn’t Guardiola, he isn’t Klopp, he’s a really, really inspirational forward-thinking coach.”

Jordan added: “People are saying, ‘well Palace are doing well’, Palace are doing really well, I like the shape of Palace but they are three points in front of Leeds.

“So, the narrative, it depends on how you want to [see it].

“I know it is one game more but the context, it [the thrashing by Manchester City] is a terrible result.

“But people are talking about Leeds prior to getting tanked by Manchester City, ‘hang on what is happening to Leeds this season?’

“And I do not believe Leeds United are going to get relegated. I believe they will go through this season; they will probably finish mid-table.”
