Jose Mourinho was left ‘frustrated’ as his Spurs team lost 2-0 to Leicester City at home.

The first half saw few chances before Jamie Vardy put the Foxes ahead with a penalty.

Serge Aurier was adjudged to have pushed Wesley Fofana in the box, which gave Vardy the chance to score.

He did so by smashing the ball past Hugo Lloris into the centre of the net.

Leicester then doubled their lead as Vardy’s header was knocked in by Toby Alderweireld in the 59th-minute.

The home side had no reply and were visually affected by the silence of talisman Harry Kane.

Speaking after the loss, Mourinho told reporters: “It’s frustrating but I think it’s a strange game to describe. It’s a game that we lose with the penalty and the own goal.

“It’s a game where your goalkeeper doesn’t make a single save, but it’s a game that we didn’t play very well. We didn’t start well, but then the period we were playing the best was when we conceded the goal and then the own goal.

“The team tried and created a few moments. I didn’t think either team played very well.

“We had the best chances in the first half, they had two or three good chances and they scored the penalty which is not even a dangerous situation – the opponent is running away from our goal. The teams are similar levels and it can be a mistake that makes the difference.

“Serge [Aurier] doesn’t need to make the challenge, of course he doesn’t need to. But I’m not going to crucify the player.

“We deserved to win the game at Liverpool and that would have made it an amazing week because nobody has done that for a long time – the team was phenomenal at Liverpool. Now if you look at the table everybody is there.”
