Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho is ready to make an offer for a former target of his at Manchester United, according to reports.
Following his sacking last December, Mourinho often bemoaned United’s lack of options at centre-half after missing out on several targets in the 2018 summer transfer window.
Mourinho put in a £95million bid for Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly in the weeks leading up to his departure at Old Trafford, which proved unsuccessful.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis said at the time: “Mourinho wanted him, we rejected £95million. But now it’s impossibile that he leaves Napoli.”
The Portuguese coach has since been given the Spurs job, leading them to three wins from his first four in charge, including a 5-0 victory over Burnley on Saturday.
Despite his positive start, Tottenham conceded six goals in his first three matches and Mourinho will be wanting to improve his defensive options.
One of Mourinho’s ‘demands to Tottenham’ was for the club to sign the Napoli defender and talks between the two clubs ‘have already begun’.
