Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has suggested that Joe Gomez’s return from injury could impact his selection thoughts ahead of their match against Arsenal on Monday.
Sadio Mane took the headlines as he scored two goals as Liverpool continued their positive start to the season last weekend with a 2-0 victory over Chelsea.
However, Fabinho, who normally plays a in central midfield, filled in alongside Virgil van Dijk at centre-half and the Brazilian earned huge praise for his performance.
When asked if Fabinho could play at centre-back in the long term, Klopp told Sky Sports: “What do I know?
“We have to make sure we have centre halves when we play football and Fabinho can obviously play the position very well, he’s fit and that’s good, so he gets minutes, that’s good for him.
“Joe [Gomez] should be back in training tomorrow [Friday], I hope so and the situation could look slightly different.
“But he is doing really well, if he plays like he played against Chelsea he can play as a centre half, 100%. If somebody else plays as a 6, he has another position.”
