Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has issued updates on injuries to Naby Keita and Joel Matip ahead of his side’s clash with Tottenham.

The Reds have suffered a number of injuries this season to key players with Diogo Jota – who could miss up to six weeks – the latest to spend time on the sidelines.

And Klopp will be hoping he can call upon Keita and Matip for the Spurs match, with the latter forced to come off at half-time in their 1-1 draw against Fulham.

Klopp told reporters: “Naby maybe [back]. Was involved in extended warming up. Another session today, we will make a decision. Others…no. No-one else.”

On Keita, Klopp added: “Everyone who knows Naby Keita’s best moments know that wasn’t it at Midtjylland. We step back, it’s not serious but we see. No-one doubts his quality but when you’re injured you need luck it doesn’t happen again. We try to be careful.”

On whether Matip would be fit for the match against Tottenham, Klopp continued: “Only two days ago he left with a back spasm. We will see. Today is another session and then we will see.”

Former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier, who guided the Reds to an FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Cup treble in 2001, died at the age of 73 on Monday.

When asled about his memories of Houllier, Klopp responded: “Only the best. I met him a few times since I’ve been at Liverpool, he text a lot. He was a very supportive man, a great coach and an even better human being.

“Very warm personality and a big miss for his family, friends and for Liverpool. A true legend of this club.

“He would have loved to see our new training ground because he was very influential in the rebuild and modernising of Melwood.

“During construction work here we were in contact and he asked me about it. He would have loved to have seen it. Tomorrow I am pretty sure our supporters will pay tribute to in an appropriate way.”
