Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says he will have to make “late decisions” on whether to start certain players against Brighton at the weekend, including captain Jordan Henderson.

The Reds lost 2-0 to Atalanta on Wednesday night, leaving them only two days recovery ahead of their clash with Graham Potter’s men on Saturday lunchtime.

Klopp was fuming at the quick turnaround after the Champions League defeat, claiming that it was “nearly a crime” to schedule their match early on the Saturday.

Speaking about the fitness of Henderson and others, Klopp told reporters: “Hendo trained yesterday in parts of the team training and his own individual session so we have to see what we do with that. All the other players that played are in recovery.

“That’s how it is when you have so few days in between. So we have to make late decisions. If you asked me my line up, I couldn’t tell you. I have to wait for medical department to tell me who looks like being ready.”

The German boss will be reunited with former player Adam Lallana when the Reds play Brighton on Saturday and he’s looking forward to seeing him.

Klopp added: “It’s hard to miss Adam Lallana because pretty much everyone in the squad is still in touch with him.

“But not this week. I would expect him to be on the pitch tomorrow, and we will put the friendship to the side, but after the game we will be friends again.”

When asked about Diogo Jota’s integration in the Liverpool squad, Klopp responded: “He has settled in nicely, that is true. It is very important for us because we cannot play our usual front three all the time all season.

“It’s difficult to improve things but it looks like he can do that so I am really happy about that.”
