Tottenham striker Harry Kane has ‘given his word’ to Bayern Munich despite ‘preferring’ a move to Manchester United, according to reports.

Kane is out of contract next year and is reportedly unwilling to agree new terms after his side’s disappointing eighth-place finish in the Premier League.

You can completely understand his decision not to extend his contract. In nine seasons as Tottenham’s main man, the 29-year-old is yet to win a trophy.

A move to Bayern would obviously give him the perfect opportunity to end his wait for a piece of silverware, though it is believed his preference is to join Manchester United.

This is pretty unrealistic given Daniel Levy’s reluctance to sell to a Premier League rival, even if he is running the risk of letting him choose his next club as a free agent in 2024.

Furthermore, Levy will only entertain bids of at least £100million, which the Red Devils are not willing to pay. They are pursuing Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund instead and have reportedly made a bid worth €50m plus €10m in add-ons (£51.5m total package).

Kane’s preference has been reiterated by Football Insider, who says the England captain ‘recognises negotiations with Tottenham will be tough’.

In some cutting-edge reporting from Pete O’Rourke, it is claimed ‘Tottenham are concerned about losing a guaranteed 25-goal-per-season forward’ with Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic lined up as a potential replacement.

An interesting report from German journalist Christian Falk adds that Kane’s wife is keen on moving to Munich with more talks with Levy set to take place this week.

Falk, writing for CaughtOffside, says Bayern are ‘working hard on the transfer’ and feel ‘very positive’ about their chances.

There is ‘hope’ that Kane ‘has played his last game for Spurs’ with the Bundesliga champions looking to secure the player’s signature before August 6.

Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and technical director Maroc Neppe will meet Levy in London on Friday in the hope of reaching a ‘breakthrough’ after initial talks over breakfast earlier this summer.

The Bavarians are aware of interest from Paris Saint-Germain, though Falk says ‘they count on Kane’ after he ‘gave the bosses his word to come to Munich’.

During discussions, the 29-year-old’s wife ‘was very keen’ and ‘visited’ Germany last Thursday, even ‘viewing hospitals’ ahead of the birth of their next child.

Amidst uncertainty surrounding Kylian Mbappe’s future, PSG are in a weaker position thanks to FFP rules, with Bayern hoping Sadio Mane will join Al-Nassr, thus getting his £24m-a-year salary off their books.

Bayern will use this money to sign Kane – who they want to offer a ‘four-year contract, minimum’, Falk adds.
