Kane leaves Ange in ‘difficult position’ as transfer expert reveals Spurs striker is ‘on the plane’
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp says Harry Kane’s move to Bayern Munich has “surprised” him.
Spurs accepted an £86.4million bid from the German champions on Wednesday and the England captain gave the green light for the transfer on Friday morning.
Uncertainty has been growing over the agreement with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy reportedly moving the goalposts when Kane was ready to fly to Munich.
Everything appears to be in place with Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg reporting that Kane is travelling to Germany to complete his Bayern medical.
Tweeting on Friday evening, Plettenberg said: ‘More about Kane: ALL details between the clubs have been 100 per cent clarified minutes ago.
‘Final transfer fee as reported: Around €110m all-in (100+10). Salary: Around €25m gross with possible add-ons included.
‘Kane is in the plane right now. Medical this evening! Announcement probably tonight.’
The 30-year-old will leave Spurs after 19 years, 435 first-team appearances, 280 goals and 64 assists.
Despite an incredible career from a personal standpoint, Kane has failed to win a trophy with his boyhood club but is expected to finally get his hands on some silverware when he joins Bayern.
Kane might have struggled for success in north London, but the club’s former manager, Harry Redknapp, always expected the England striker to see out his Spurs contract.
“I thought he’d stay at Tottenham at least for another year and then maybe see his contract out,” said Redknapp.
“Bayern’s a great club don’t get me wrong, but I just couldn’t see him moving. I really am surprised.
“For me he’s the best centre forward in the world. He can do absolutely everything. He’s irreplaceable basically, so not a great day for Tottenham fans.”
Redknapp also believes Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou is now in a “difficult position” with the timing of the move coming on the day the Premier League returns.
“I was surprised. You thought it would have been done sooner. It’s been dragging on. It’s left the manager in a difficult position.”
