Karius hopes to ‘prove himself’ in three-way Reds battle

Loris Karius is hoping to “prove myself” as Jurgen Klopp will provide three Liverpool goalkeepers with the chance to stake their claim.

Karius joined the club last summer and soon became their first-choice shot-stopper, but a number of questionable performances led to Simon Mignolet taking his place.

Mignolet improved as the campaign went on, while Danny Ward was one of the key players in Huddersfield’s promotion from the Championship.

Klopp has previously stated that all three keepers will be given a chance in pre-season, and the manager will then decide as to who will start the season in goal.

It is a battle Karius hopes to win after a difficult first season.

“It feels good to be back,” Karius told Liverpoolfc.com.

“I didn’t have an easy first season with a bit of a struggle and injuries. Now I want to prove myself, do better than last season and win the shirt back.

“It was a new experience for me, with a lot to learn. Even in the negative spell, I took positives out of it and learned a lot that was new to me. I feel strong mentally and also on the pitch. I want to prove myself.

“It’s good to have competition and good for the club to have three strong goalkeepers. I’m sure we’ll try to push each other in training. Everyone will try to be at their best.”
