Keane slams ‘sloppy’ Arsenal star and pinpoints where Arteta’s side still need to improve

Roy Keane wasn’t impressed with Kai Havertz and the role the Arsenal midfielder played in Manchester United’s opening goal.

The Gunners did have the better of Man Utd in the early stages, but Marcus Rashford managed to give the away side the lead with a goal against the run of play.

Arsenal managed to flip the game on its head though Martin Odegaard quickly responded with a goal of his own before Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus put the game to bed.

Havertz will be thankful that Arsenal managed to turn the game around as he was partially responsible for Man Utd’s opening goal.

The German midfielder had his pass intercepted by Christian Eriksen who then fed Rashford for the opening goal.

Keane wasn’t left impressed with this Havertz mistake as the pundit made his thought clear while on punditry duty for Sky Sports.

“They get a little break here when they clear it,” Keane explained. “Obviously poor play, sloppy, Havertz in midfield – then they’re in trouble.

“You see Rashford once he gets at defenders facing their own goal, they’re in huge, huge trouble. Arsenal have got to do better defensively, Marcus is always going to come back in on his right.”

One Arsenal midfielder who did shine against Man Utd was Rice. The 24-year-old was on top form for the Gunners and Mikel Arteta sang his praises after the game.

“He was outstanding,” Arteta told Sky Sports. “But the whole team was as well. Rice gave us the momentum in the moments the team needed it. It is a beautiful thing how these turn around and we won the game.

“We have been so dominant. Against Fulham it was a similar story. The team deserves more. When I see a team with that will to win, the eagerness to go and go, it is beautiful.

“We work and do everything we do every day for moments like this. This is sport at the top level, it is about the small margins. It could have gone either way.

“I am really happy obviously. They are a great team, really well coached and they make life difficult for you. When we gave the goal away that we did you are always up against it and in the Premier League that is dangerous.”
