Keane snubs Man Utd boss Ten Hag as he names Chelsea man in top three PL managers
Manchester United legend Roy Keane has picked Chelsea boss Graham Potter as one of the top three current Premier League managers.
The Blues have made a great start to life under Potter – who swapped Brighton for west London last month – with two Premier League wins out of two and four points from Champions League matches against RB Salzburg and AC Milan.
Chelsea are slowly creeping up the Premier League table after sacking Thomas Tuchel with their 3-0 victory over Wolves on Saturday taking them up to fourth in the standings.
Erik Ten Hag has had a mixed start to his tenure at Man Utd with the Red Devils bouncing back from a heavy 6-3 loss at rivals Man City to beat Everton 2-1 on Sunday evening.
And Keane doesn’t currently rate Ten Hag as one of the top three managers in the Premier League with Potter, Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Man City’s Pep Guardiola making the cut.
When asked to pick his top three managers in the top flight, Keane told Sky Sports: “Managers I like? I’ve always had loads of time for Pep [Guardiola].
“I think what he does to his teams… I know people say he always works with the best players at the biggest clubs with the biggest budgets – blah, blah, blah – but he still has to work with them, manage them and find a style of play.
“I like Brentford’s manager, Thomas Frank, I like him. I like the way he comes across. Even when they were in the Championship, I came across him. A really good guy.
“And I like Graham Potter at Chelsea. I like the way his teams play, I like the way he comes across in the media, I’m delighted he’s got a chance at a big club like Chelsea.
“There’s all this talk about if he can manage a big club and big egos and all this, but give the man a chance. He’s settled in really well.
“Every time he speaks in interviews, I think he comes across really well. So those are the three for me.”
Armando Broja has performed well when called upon in recent weeks and BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks reckons it would be good to see Broja and Kai Havertz start up front together.
“If Chelsea are still looking for a number nine, I think they might have found him if they are bold enough. Kai Havertz is starting to find himself in top-flight football,” Crooks told BBC Sport.
“With two goals for Germany against England recently, he’s also starting to find the back of the net in his Chelsea colours as well. Havertz looks altogether much more composed around the goal these days.
“So too is Armando Broja. The Albania forward looks particularly comfortable at Stamford Bridge these days and I wonder if Graham Potter would consider playing them as a pair. It would certainly give teams something to think about. Perhaps even Manchester City.”
