Roy Keane has agreed with Graeme Souness’ assessment of Manchester United star Anthony Martial.

Martial signed for Man United in September 2015 from French side Monaco. He joined for a fee of around £36m.

He enjoyed an impressive debut season for the Red Devils, as he scored 17 times from his 49 appearances.

Martial’s form for the club since then has been up and down. He has 78 goals from his 254 games for United across all competitions.

The 25-year-old has struggled to find a consistent run of form for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side in 2020/21.

He was named on the bench for their game at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea on Sunday.

Speaking on Sky Sports pre-match, Souness suggested that he has “never seen” Martial get emotional during a game:

“I’m not surprised you leave him out. I think he’s a young man with the talent to succeed at the highest level…but will he be disappointed he’s not playing today?

“Does he ever show he’s got a real passion for the game? Does he ever play, get emotional about the game? I’ve never seen it.

“He’s one of those players who’s going to end up looking back at his career and thinking he could have done so much more. I’m a fan but I’m not a fan.”

Keane agreed with his colleague, adding: “Yeah he doesn’t look like he loves that game. That’s always a worry.”
