Keown explains why Man Utd shouldn’t be ‘that confident’ on Sunday as he makes Liverpool prediction

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown doesn’t think Man Utd should be “that confident” of beating Liverpool at Anfield despite their recent form.

The Red Devils have been in good form in recent weeks with Erik ten Hag already having something to show for a good first season in charge after winning the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United last weekend.

Man Utd currently sit third in the Premier League, 11 points adrift of leaders Arsenal but with a game in hand, giving them an outside shot at the title, while they are still in both the FA Cup and Europa League.

They face one of their toughest tests of the season against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday despite many fancying them to beat the Reds, who are having a poor season under Jurgen Klopp.

However, Liverpool have picked up ten points from a possible 12 in their last four matches and Keown reckons it will be a very tough game for Man Utd.

“I just think this is a great game for Liverpool because they can try and put their season right in almost one game here,” Keown said on talkSPORT.

“Liverpool haven’t been great this season, they’re in a temporary blip I think, but look what they’ve done in recent years.

“Maybe there was a bit of burn-out there but they’ve had a good rest and a good look at this fixture. I think they’re going to be in really good form on Sunday.

“The atmosphere in that stadium will be incredible. Liverpool beat Wolves last time out, they drew to Crystal Palace away, they beat Newcastle and Everton… they’re on a little run and this is a huge game for them.

“Manchester United think they’re coming back and there’s a lot of confidence there, but this is so new to them that I don’t think they can be that confident of going there and winning at Anfield.”

Man Utd left-back Luke Shaw reckons the Red Devils have to win at Anfield on Sunday if they have any thoughts about winning the Premier League title this season.

Shaw said: “They’re always big, big games. I think if we want to be challenging for the title, I think we need to be going there and winning these games.

“But, of course, on the other hand, we know it’s going to be an extremely tough game.

“They’re always a tough game against Liverpool. They’re an amazing side, a really good side and I think it’s going to be a good game.”
