According to reports, Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp wants to sign two more midfielders before the summer transfer window closes.

Liverpool have been busy this summer as £95m has been spent to sign Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai from Brighton and RB Leipzig respectively.

Reinforcements were necessary in midfield following the departures of James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain when their contracts expired.

It has since emerged that Fabinho and Jordan Henderson could also leave amid interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League.

Fabinho (£40m) and Henderson (£10m) have reportedly been given the ‘green light’ to have medicals ahead of their move to the Middle East.

Football Insider are now reporting that in the wake of these two exits, ‘Liverpool and Klopp are keen to add two more midfield signings this summer’. They add.

‘A well-placed source has told Football Insider that a defensive midfielder is seen as a “must” – with the impact of Fabinho’s departure set to take its toll on the Merseysiders’ squad.

‘A separate arrival will be lined up to replace Henderson, who plays in a more conventional central midfield berth.

‘Football Insider revealed on Monday (17 July) that Liverpool are exploring a potential move for Crystal Palace defensive midfielder Cheick Doucoure following his impressive first season in English football.

‘The Reds have concrete interest in a host of other names, including Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, Borussia Monchengladbach star Manu Kone – and Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram.’

Stan Collymore has encouraged Liverpool to “break the bank” for Chelsea target Moises Caicedo as Fabinho’s long-term replacement.

“To replace Fabinho, I think Liverpool should break the bank for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and although it might be a little too soon for him, Aston Villa’s Boubacar Kamara would be an excellent acquisition for Klopp having been exceptional at times last season – although I think Aston Villa won’t be motivated to sell him this summer,” Collymore told Caught Offside.

“If they are looking for a defensive midfielder that will be there for the next four/five years, Caicedo would be my pick. Partnering him with Mac Allister, his former Brighton teammate, would be very good as it was a pairing that produced tremendous results over the past season.

“Either way, Liverpool need to bring in one more player for their midfield. The sales of Fabinho and Henderson could bring in £60m, which will delight the recruitment team at the Merseyside club, and as I said above, the Reds should use that to challenge Chelsea for Caicedo.”
