Jurgen Klopp says that Mohamed Salah has earned a day off from training after his Liverpool cameo against Porto.
Liverpool drew 0-0 with the Portuguese side on Tuesday, securing a 5-0 aggregate victory and passage to the Champions League quarter-finals.
Salah started the game on the bench but came on for the final 16 minutes.
But he impressed enough in his cameo, having one shot and creating two scoring chances in his 12 touches, to earn a reprieve from training on Wednesday.
“Everyone thinks about injuries but that can happen all the time,” Klopp said.
“Now we thought we give him, if possible, the last 20. If it is 15 he trains again on Wednesday. I told him if he really runs a lot he does not have to train so I thought he was quite lively.”
Klopp made five changes at Anfield, and sought to explain a few of his selections.
“Robertson had an issue but not big. It was not about rotation, only about the next line-up,” he said.
“It was not too intense for Sadio even though he was lively. It was very important for Adam (Lallana), getting used to the rhythm, and for Ingsy a few minutes.
“Joe Gomez playing after a few weeks was important. Now we can prepare the Manchester game and I am looking forward to it.”
