Klopp jokes about Liverpool star’s injury: ‘His only useful foot!’

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that left-back Andy Robertson looks “different” after the winter break and joked that his recovery was particular important as his injury was to “his only useful foot”.

Robertson has become an unmissable part of Klopp’s side in recent seasons following his bargain move from Hull City and he has six assists so far this season.

However, the Scotland international has at times been forced to play through a considerable pain barrier in the quest for success with his team-mates.

Robertson recently opened up again on his injury woes, admitting that the pain was coming on his stronger left foot.

Speaking in Friday’s press conference ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash with Norwich, however, Klopp backed Robertson to come back from the winter break stronger.

Klopp said: “There are so many positive stories about us right now which is normal. It is normal for a pro player to play through pain, that’s how it is.

“Hendo [Jordan Henderson] had a knock in the home game against Barcelona and it looked like he wouldn’t be able to carry on.

“But he said ‘it’s only pain’ and he carried on. For Robbo it was very important because it was his left foot. His only useful foot!

“It was very important that we had this week, he looks different now.”

Liverpool beat Norwich 4-1 at Anfield in their opening game of the season, with the Canaries now six points adrift of safety at the bottom of the table.

Klopp insisted, though, that he will be taking no chances when clashing with Daniel Farke’s side again.

“I really admire that they stick to their principles. The game in August is a good example of their season,” Klopp said.

“Really good football, super coaching. They conceded four but never gave up and they did what they did.

“They scored, they had more chances. But they have caused 95 per cent of teams real problems yet they lost a lot of these games.

“It looks from the outside that this club sticks together and as strange as it sounds they are in a really good situation.”

Liverpool need six wins from their remaining 13 in the Premier League to clinch their first league title in 30 years.
