Klopp: Liverpool’s league position currently ‘doesn’t matter’
Jurgen Klopp says it is “nice” to be top of the Premier League but he suggests that positions in the table do not matter at this stage.
Liverpool picked up their second straight draw in the league on Wednesday night as they were held by Newcastle United.
Steve Bruce’s side were made to defend well, but they hung on to earn a valuable point against the Premier League champions.

This draw comes days after Liverpool dropped points at Anfield against Sam Allardyce’s West Brom. Despite this, Klopp’s men remain top of the league.
They are three points ahead of Manchester United in second. But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side can move level on points with Liverpool if they win their game in hand.
Speaking with Amazon Prime Video post-match, as cited by Manchester Evening News, Klopp claimed that league position holds little significance at this point of the campaign:
“The last thing that I think about is our position in the table. It’s nice but it doesn’t matter at this stage of the season.
“You’ve seen that we’ve drawn the last two games and we are still top of the table, it just shows how much of a difficult season it is for everybody.
“Other teams won last night and are now in a good mood. We are in a good mood when life gives you lemons make lemonade from it.
“We try all the time. When I think of football, these are the moments we all enjoy but in the rest of life at the moment, it isn’t obviously that easy.
“For all the people in the world it’s really difficult, but we’ve all fought through it. Winter came and the next wave came and stuff like this.
“So that’s in my mind but we will keep going. Next game Southampton, Aston Villa, United. All these kind of things, that’s good.
“We want to be ready for the games. We didn’t get the result we wanted but that’s not the worst thing in life.”
