Jurgen Klopp has suggested that everything “clicked” as his red-hot Liverpool side netted seven past Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Roy Hodgson’s side did very little wrong in the first half. They created some good chances in behind the Liverpool backline.

But Klopp’s side made the hosts rue their missed chances as they lead 3-0 at half-time. All the goals came in typically ruthless fashion through Takumi Minamino, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino.

Early winners: Minamino, Liverpool and a display of champions…

Liverpool kicked into another gear in the second half. Mo Salah came off of the bench to score a brace. Firmino got his second after Jordan Henderson also got in on the act.

This remarkable result ensures that Liverpool will be top of the Premier League at Christmas. The Reds have 31 points from their 14 games having only lost one game this campaign.

Their only defeat of the season was their surprising 7-2 loss to Aston Villa. Since then they have gone on a 10-game unbeaten league run which places them at the summit of the Premier League.

Speaking post-match, as cited by BBC Sport, Klopp was full of praise for his team after they ran riot at Selhurst Park:

“It was hard work, a lot of counter attack from Crystal Palace in the first half where we needed a toe or a foot to defend. Our finishing in the first half was clinical. Then, 3-0 up at half time the game is not finished but we controlled the game and scored wonderful goals.

“The boys are capable (of this) but it doesn’t happen every week. Today it clicked. This is a very intense period, the boys should be very proud of it. We take a day off tomorrow, then prepare for West Brom, and goal difference wise it is good because of the funny result at Villa.”
