Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp pinpoints two new signings the club must make this summer if they are to overtake Manchester City in the Premier League, according to reports.
The Reds had a successful season overall in 2018-19, capturing their sixth European Cup and pushing City all the way in the title race before missing out on the final day.
The big goal is to assemble a group of players that allows them to win the Premier League, a competition that they have gone 30 years without winning.
The Spanish outlet states that Klopp knows exactly what is needed to unseat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. He intends to ‘look for a quality jump’ that would make them a ‘practically unbeatable team’.
The first market objective is a central defender to partner Virgil Van Dijk, because none of Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip nor Joe Gomez are currently seen as up to the task.
The second is a quality midfielder; and one with different characteristics to those of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner or Georginio Wijnaldum.
The former Borussia Dortmund boss wants a ‘playmaker’, who ‘pulls the strings’ and ‘knows how to distribute play and retain the ball, to keep possession when necessary’.
Don Balon goes on to state that Dani Ceballos could be the perfect man for that, but Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is seemingly ready to conduct an auction – with Spurs, Arsenal, Manchester United and AC Milan all also interested.
