Klopp to oppose Van Gaal with Europa approach

Jurgen Klopp will take a different approach to Louis van Gaal for their Europa League meeting, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Klopp will lead his Liverpool side to Manchester United in the last 16 of the Europa League on Thursday, with the Reds defending a two-goal lead at Old Trafford.

The Liverpool Echo reports that Klopp will approach the tie as he would any other European game – a tactic which will differ to Van Gaal’s approach when he took his side to Anfield.

According to the Echo’s James Pearce, Klopp and his players will make the short trip to Manchester on Wednesday, before the German holds a press conference and oversees a training session in the evening.

Pearce claims that this differs from Van Gaal’s approach. The Dutchman treated the game more like a domestic fixture.

The United boss ‘requested special UEFA dispensation’ to allow his squad to stay and train in Manchester, despite rules stating that the visiting side in European competition must stay within 27 miles of their opponents’ stadium before a game.

UEFA permitted United to train at Carrington on Wednesday before they traveled to Anfield on Thursday. Liverpool subsequently beat them 2-0.
