Klopp: We’re sixth, so don’t get carried away

Lots of people (yes, us too) may be getting very excited about Liverpool’s run of form, but Jurgen Klopp says that there is still a long way to go.

Liverpool have won seven of their last eight matches, including a 6-1 thrashing of Southampton on Wednesday, and their odds to win the Premier League title have tumbled.

Yet Klopp says the club’s progression needs to be realistic, and that his side have a long way to go to challenge for the title.

“People can talk about this [winning the title] but we just have to play football,” Klopp said.

“We don’t have any ideas yet about where we can get to – it’s a fantastic football club and everyone here loves working at this club and everything is really good.

“But you need to have luck with injuries to be challenging, so we can’t get carried away and look too far forward – we are only in sixth place.

“That is all we look at and that is what football is all about. We know we can get better, and we know there is still a long way to go.”
