Jurgen Klopp wants to see Liverpool splash out on Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat during the winter market, according to reports.

The Morocco international has demonstrated his abilities at the World Cup with a string of impressive performances for his national side, who have reached the World Cup quarter-finals.

Those displays have already seen him linked with a move away from Fiorentina in the January transfer window and Liverpool appears to be the most likely destination.

Liverpool had seemingly wrapped up their transfer business early in the summer with the additions of Fabio Carvalho, Darwin Nunez and Calvin Ramsay but injuries and poor form some them swoop late in the window for Juventus midfielder Arthur.

The Brazilian joined on loan until the end of the season in what many thought at the time was a panic buy after reports emerged that Liverpool had planned to wait until the following summer to strengthen their midfield.

Before the World Cup, Arthur was ruled out for several months with injury, and now there are strong links to Amrabat with Foot Mercato recently claiming the midfielder’s people have already met Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

The report said: “According to our information, Sofyan Amrabat’s entourage has already met Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp, eager to strengthen his midfield for the second half of the busy season to come.

“The meeting between the two parties has also been positive, and the latter have planned to see each other again after the 2022 World Cup.”

When asked about reported interest in his player, Amrabat’s agent Mohammed Sinouh said: “Of course, I get a lot of phone calls for Sofyan. The whole world has seen he’s the best holding midfielder of the World Cup.

“Sofyan is top professional, he’s focused on World Cup with Morocco”.

And now Italian publication Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) claim that Reds boss Klopp has ‘long since made a request to the board to be able to have a player just like Amrabat in January’.

They also add that Liverpool have a good chance of landing the Fiorentina midfielder with the wages on offer, while the prospect of Champions League football is likely to make him ‘waver’.

Former Chelsea and England midfielder Joe Cole has watched Amrabat closely at the World Cup and he was especially impressed by his performance in Morocco’s victory on penalties against Spain in the last 16.

Cole said on ITV Sport: “He’s been excellent. He’s patrolling the middle of the pitch, he’s not allowing Gavi and Pedri to get into any type of dangerous position, he’s got great defensive instincts. I watched him in the first game and thought he was good, tonight he’s been excellent off the ball.

“Any time Spain look like they’re trying to make it through the lines, he’s there, he reads it, he’s got lovely balance too. He’s been the epitome of everything good that Morocco have done, he’s been excellent.”
