Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw has signed a new contract at Elland Road, the Yorkshire club have announced.
The 30-year-old’s current deal was set to expire at the end of the season, but he has agreed a one-year extension with a club option for a further year.
Forshaw joined Leeds from Middlesbrough in 2018 with the majority of his time at the club being hindered by injuries.
He did not play a single minute for United between October 2019 and August 2021 due to a hip problem.
The ex-Middlesbrough man had to wait until October last year to make his Premier League debut for Leeds and has been a first-team regular under Marcelo Bielsa ever since.
A club statement read: “Leeds United are delighted to announce midfielder Adam Forshaw has signed a new contract with the club.
“Forshaw, whose current deal was due to expire at the end of the season, has agreed a one-year extension keeping him at Elland Road until the summer of 2023.
“The club also holds an option within the new contract to extend it by a further 12 months.
“Following surgery and a lengthy rehab process, Forshaw made a successful comeback for the Whites in the Carabao Cup victory against Crewe Alexandra at Elland Road last August.
“He has since battled his way back to become a first team regular for the Whites once again and in total this season, has featured 15 times for Bielsa’s side, once again becoming an integral part of the midfield.”
Elsewhere, Arsenal will make their interest official over the next few days with a bid for Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic, according to Calciomercato journalist Eleonora Trotta.
Vlahovic has emerged as one of the most in-demand strikers in Europe amidst his terrific form for Fiorentina in Serie A.
The 21-year-old has scored 19 goals in 23 appearances in all competitions this term after an impressive 2020/21 campaign in which he netted 21 times in the league.
Trotta told CMIT TV: “Juventus? In January we need to monitor the Arsenal situation. They tell me that in the next few days an offer of 60 million euros will arrive. Fiorentina would like to sell it to January, in fact he has already met [Julian] Alvarez’s agents”
