Leeds ready to sanction star’s exit as Aston Villa lead Premier League push for forward
Leeds United are reportedly ‘expecting’ Wilfried Gnonto to depart the club this summer, following enquiries from Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Everton.
A Leeds exodus is currently ongoing, following their relegation from the Premier League. After a 16-year absence, the Whites lasted just three years back in the top flight, before a disappointing season last time out saw them drop back to the Championship.
It would have been surprising had a lot of the players that joined from bigger clubs had stayed, and most are already heading for the exit door.
Indeed, the exits of Brenden Aaronson, Robin Koch and Rodrigo have already gone through. Marc Roca and Diego Llorente are among those who are also soon to exit.
There are then players who reports suggest are being targeted for moves. Forward man Gnonto is in that group, with a recent report stating Leeds doubted whether he would remain next season.
A fresh report suggests it’s very likely that he won’t be at Elland Road by then. Indeed, Football Insider states Leeds are ‘expecting’ Gnonto to depart from the club this summer.
They’re seemingly aware they’d be unable to fight off all the interest there is in the Italian.
Indeed, the report cites interest from Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Everton, all of which have made enquiries to the Whites regarding the forward.
There is also apparent interest from clubs in Italy, and on top of that, clubs ‘around Europe’ are expressing an interest in Gnonto.
Aston Villa are one of the leading names in the hunt for him. A recent report stated they have ‘no intention of letting go’ in their pursuit of the forward.
With Leeds now essentially allowing Gnonto to leave the club, the Villans will make their efforts to sign the forward even stronger, in an attempt to ensure they’re the side that acquires his services, rather than a Premier League rival.
Gnonto might not be the only star man that exits between now and the end of the season, with interest reported in Jack Harrison and Tyler Adams, too. Thinks could look very different for the Whites come the start of the next campaign.
