Leeds had agreed a £3million fee to sign Forestieri from Watford, but the forward instead decided to join Wednesday, who also signed Daniel Pudil on loan from the Hornets.
Leeds have therefore switched their attention to Botaka and are said to have agreed a fee with Excelsior and begun personal talks with the Congo international.
The Whites have ended their interest in NEC Nijmegen’s Anthony Limbombe, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, but may sign another winger before Tuesday’s transfer deadline even if they complete a deal for Botaka. Wolves’ Rajiv van La Parra has been linked.
Botaka has apparently been offered a two-year contract to move to Elland Road, with the option of a third year.
