Arsenal legend Lehmann on Haaland

Former Premier League goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has suggested that Borussia Dortmund striker “could go to” Arsenal next summer.

Over the past couple of years, Haaland has established himself as one of the best young players in world football.

After being a prolific goalscorer for Red Bull Salzburg, he joined Dortmund last year. This came after he was linked with a move to Manchester United.

Since joining the German outfit, he has scored 70 goals for them from just 69 games across all competitions.

Haaland has also netted twelve times for Norway from his 15 caps since 2019. He is expected to leave Dortmund next summer as he will have a release clause of around £68m.

Several Premier League clubs, including Chelsea and Man Utd, have been linked with the forward. As reported by the Metro, Lehmann has suggested that the “imposing” Haaland “could go to” Arsenal:

“He already has an imposing stature; the force and height. Of course, he has to improve his [right] foot but I have never seen such a big, big player be so fast,” Lehmann said.

“He’s still [at Dortmund]. There aren’t that many clubs where he can go and where he can make a difference.

“Maybe he could go to Manchester United or Arsenal, where he could bring a club back to the top.”

Elsewhere, Arsenal face Aston Villa this weekend in the Premier League. Villans boss Dean Smith has been speaking ahead of that game. He has insisted that the Gunners are not in a “crisis”:

“People were saying they were in crisis after the first three matches of the season and that was with a Covid-19 outbreak in their camp for the first game and games against the league champions and European champions.

“They’ve come back as we all suspected they would. They’ve drawn the last couple of games, so we can take some heart in that.

“We can also take some heart from what we’ve done in the last month in our last four or five games. They’re the ones that I have to judge us by in terms of our performances.”
