Leicester boss challenged to bring ‘sustainable success’

Leicester boss Craig Shakespeare believes the club can now move forward after he was confirmed as the Foxes’ full-time boss.

The 53-year-old has signed a three-year deal at the King Power Stadium after holding talks with the club since the end of last season.

Shakespeare’s short term-deal was due to expire at the end of the month after he replaced Claudio Ranieri in February.

He told the club’s official site: “This is a really exciting opportunity for me to continue along this new path in my career and to continue to work with a club and a group of staff I’ve grown extremely close to. I’m grateful to the owners and the Board of Directors for their continued faith and support.

“Our preparations for pre-season and the new Premier League campaign have been on-going for some time, but we can now move on with certainty and ensure we are well equipped to compete at the levels now expected of a club like Leicester City.”

Former assistant manager Shakespeare was appointed after Ranieri was sacked with the Foxes just a point above the Premier League relegation zone after winning the title last year.

He won his first six games in all competitions – including a 2-0 win over Sevilla to clinch a Champions League quarter-final spot – and guided the Foxes away from danger.

They finished 12th in the Premier League with Shakespeare winning eight of his 16 games in all competitions while they were beaten 2-1 on aggregate by Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last eight.

Vice chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha added: “Craig has shown all the qualities in leadership, motivation and talent management that are required to be successful in this role.

“Those qualities, aligned with his first class coaching acumen, his knowledge of Leicester City and its philosophy, and the respect he has learned at every level of the Club make him the ideal choice to help take us forward.
