Leicester City plotting summer move for James Tarkowski

Tarkowski Leicester

Leicester City are planning to make a move for Burnley defender James Tarkowski this summer, according to reports.

The defender came through the ranks with Oldham Athletic but he made his name with Championship side Brentford. He spent two years with the London outfit up until February 2016.

Tarkowski joined Burnley for an undisclosed fee during the 2015/16 term. He made four appearances before the end of the campaign as the Clarets finished top of the Championship to earn promotion.

The 28-year-old has been a mainstay for Burnley since their return to the Premier League. He is now in his fifth season in the top flight.

His form in the 2017/18 season led to his inclusion in the England squad. He has been capped twice by Gareth Southgate.

Tarkowski has played over 140 times in the Premier League for Burnley so far. He was linked with a number of clubs in the summer.

Sean Dyche’s side rejected a £30m offer from West Ham during the most recent transfer window. Leicester City have also shown interest in him in the past.

The Mirror are reporting that the Foxes are readying a move for Tarkowski during the upcoming summer window. His contract with Burnley expires in just over 12 months.

Leicester City will be able to offer Tarkowski better terms with the prospect of European football on the horizon for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

The report adds that Burnley will look to bring in a young defender to replace Tarkowski. Stoke City’s Nathan Collins and Nottingham Forest’s Joe Worrall are two of their targets.
