Bayer Leverkusen have reportedly rejected Tottenham’s approach for striker Lucas Alario.

SportBild journalist Christian Falk claims Jose Mourinho is keen on the 27-year-old as a backup option for Harry Kane.

Spurs have been heavily linked with a move for Arkadiusz Milik, but reports in Italy (via Sport Witness) suggest a potential move has ‘hit the rocks’.

Tottenham are therefore looking elsewhere, and Falk claims they have approached Leverkusen over a possible deal for Alario.

The nature of the deal is unclear, but the journalist suggests Rudi Voller, Leverkusen’s head of sport, ‘declined the request’.

But Sport Witness go on to describe this as ‘strange’ given a report from MOPO indicating the Bundesliga club were ‘ready’ to listen to offers.

Alario’s agent has openly admitted the striker is aiming for pastures new, so an improved bid from Spurs could see a deal go through before the October 5 deadline.
