Report reveals £31m international is ‘leaving Man Utd’ as Inter-linked star outlines desire to ‘play’
Victor Lindelof is leaving Man Utd in the summer transfer window, according to reports, after outlining his desire to play football.
The Sweden international joined the Red Devils for £31m in 2017 from Benfica with Lindelof appearing 217 times in all competitions for Man Utd over six seasons at the club.
Lindelof’s time on the pitch has dramatically reduced this season with Erik ten Hag preferring Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez as his centre-back partnership this campaign.
The Swede, who just has this season’s Carabao Cup medal to show for his time at Man Utd, is now considering his options with little chance of him forcing himself into Ten Hag’s plans.
And now Italian website Tuttosport (via Sport Witness) claims that Lindelof ‘is leaving Manchester United’ this summer with his deal expiring at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
Milan Skriniar, Alessandro Bastoni and Danilo D‘Ambrosio could all leave Inter Milan in the summer transfer market and Lindelof has been ‘offered’ to the Serie A giants.
Lindelof, who is on international duty with Sweden, is keen to play more matches, the Man Utd defender said over the weekend: “Of course, like every player, you want to play every game and obviously I haven’t done that this season.
“But like I always say when I come here [to play for Sweden], it’s a pleasure to be here and I’m always happy to represent my country.
“I’m really looking forward to the games that we have and I spoke to Janne [Andersson, Sweden manager] before to say that I was really looking forward to coming here and to perform, and to be on the pitch with the guys again.
“Like I said, I want to play, that’s why I play football. I want to play games, but I haven’t thought about that [potential transfer].
“Right now I’m just focusing on the national team and then of course, the rest of the season with the club.
“Then in the summer we’ll re-evaluate and see what is best.”
The Man Utd centre-back has also revealed that he has been playing with a toe problem since September and that could be another reason for his absence from Ten Hag’s side.
“I broke my toe in September, and I felt it tightening out there,” Lindelof said after Sweden beat Azerbaijan 5-0 on Wednesday.
“It was with the national team in September. I got a stamp so I broke it.
“It hurt for a while, I had to take some painkillers. I could play, but only had a size bigger on the shoe.”
