A devastated Joel Matip is surveying the disaster that is Liverpool’s defending and saying: “It cannot go like this.”
The Cameroonian centre-half was partly culpable as Liverpool conceded four goals at Wembley against Tottenham to take their total of goals conceded away in the Premier League to 15 in just five games this season.
Dejan Lovren was substituted early in the game but manager Jurgen Klopp made it clear that he was not absolving Matip of blame.
Matip is blessed to play with Lovren. In any other pairing, Matip would deservedly get loads of abuse.

“It cannot go like this. It cannot be that we concede that many goals away. I’m a defender and I should take care of this,” he told Sky Sports.
“We gave them the opportunity. It was not that they played the perfect ball with our mistakes. We have to take care of them and have to stop them.”
