Liverpool learn ‘affordable’ Mount asking price as Man Utd add Chelsea man to ‘summer target list’
Chelsea have reportedly set their asking price for Mason Mount ahead of the summer transfer window amid interest from Liverpool and Man Utd.
Mount finds himself at a career crossroads at the moment. He is out of contract in 2024 and given Chelsea’s recent heavy spending, his importance at Stamford Bridge is declining.
Chelsea have failed to tempt Mount into signing a new contract and they have reportedly made it clear that he will be sold this summer if he does not commit his future to the club before then.
This has understandably alerted Chelsea’s rivals. Liverpool have been linked with Mount in recent months, with Jurgen Klopp understood to be a big admirer of the England international.
The Guardian are now reporting that Mount has ‘joined Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham on Manchester United’s summer target list’.
Kane is said to be Erik ten Hag’s ‘preferred’ striker option over Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. This is while Mount is considered to be a ‘more affordable’ option compared to Bellingham.
The Tottenham man is expected to cost as much as £100m this summer, while it has been suggested that the fee for Bellingham could be as much as £130m.
The report notes that Bellingham ‘could prove too expensive if Ten Hag devotes the bulk of his summer budget to a move for Kane’.
Man Utd are ‘looking at alternatives and could rival Liverpool for Mount’. It is suggested that he ‘could be available for about £50m’.
Mount is expected to demand over £200,000 a week and ‘it is understood Chelsea’s latest offer to Mount (which was rejected) was worth about £180,000 a week’.
Ex-Chelsea man William Gallas has encouraged Mount to “react in the right way” and fight for his future at Stamford Bridge.
“I don’t understand what is going on with Mason,” Gallas told Genting Casino. “It is very difficult for me to understand that situation. When Frank Lampard was there, followed by Thomas Tuchel, he had several great seasons.
“The contract speculation doesn’t help him, but I don’t know if it is a problem. Even if you are renewing your contract, that should be the job of your agent and you have to stay focused with what you are doing on the pitch.
“The best way to get what you want with your contract is to perform, it is that simple. It is not to be angry and to let your performances drop, the best thing to do is to perform. You have to show the board that they are wrong because you deserve to be in the starting XI, you deserve to stay at Chelsea and you deserve to get what you are asking for.
“You have to show it on the pitch, and if you do that, the fans will be with you so there will be more pressure on the club. The fans will protest and start to ask why isn’t Mason Mount getting what he asks for? They will pressure the board to give him that. That’s why he has to react in the right way.”
