Liverpool blow or boost? Crystal Palace ‘one step away’ from signing €35m centre-back

Crystal Palace are reportedly ‘one step away’ from signing Torino centre-back Perr Schuurs, in what initially seems like a blow to Liverpool but could turn out to be a boost…
Torino spent £7million to sign Schuurs from Ajax last summer and the Dutchman has caught the eye of several top European clubs through his impressive performances.
Reports last week claimed Liverpool were targeting either Sporting Lisobon’s Goncalo Ignacio and Wolfsburg’s Micky van de Ven, but Tuesday’s gossip column tipped them to make a move for Schuurs instead.
We said they would have to be quick and it appears they’ve not been quick enough with Schuurs seemingly on the verge of a move to Crystal Palace.
That’s according to DAZN journalist Orazio Accomando, who claims the Eagles have put a four-year contract on the table for the 23-year-old, who would join for a fee of €35m.
Accomando tweeted: ‘Perr #Schuurs one step away from farewell to #Torino . The #CrystalPalace presented a 35M offer to the grenade club and hopes to close in the next few hours for the Dutch centre-back. 4 year contract ready.
‘Perr Schuurs one step away to CrystalPalace. Crystal Palace has presented Turin with a 35M offer. 4-year contract ready.’
While Palace’s move for Schuurs could be seen as a blow for Liverpool, such an outlay by the Londoners suggests perhaps that they may be about to lose either Joachim Andersen, who’s been linked with Newcastle, or Marc Guehi, who’s been linked with pretty much every top Premier League club, with Liverpool thought to be most interested.
A report last week claimed the Reds were stepping up their interest in the England international, who is valued by Palace at £60m.
Guehi is under contract at Palace until 2026 which goes some way to explaining his price tag, and although many may baulk at such an outlay, Jurgen Klopp is said to be a big admirer, and for good reason.
Guehi captained Palace for the majority of last season, is composed in possession and reads the game brilliantly. He would be an excellent signing for Liverpool, even at £60m.
