Liverpool blow as midfield target with €30m price tag ‘dreams’ of signing for two other clubs
Borussia Monchengladbach star Manu Kone is reportedly not prioritising a move to Liverpool amid suggestions that he is set for a major summer transfer.
Liverpool are known to be in the market for a couple of midfielders heading into the summer transfer window.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are in need of a rebuild after what’s been a poor season in 2022/23. One of their priorities is expected to be to strengthen in midfield, with Jude Bellingham among their targets.
The Reds are also looking elsewhere and Kone is said to be one of the players they are looking at.
The defensive midfielder has been an important player for Gladbach over the past two campaigns. He has impressed in his 21 Bundesliga outings this term.
Christian Falk is reporting that the 21-year-old is valued at around €30m with his contract not due to expire until 2025.
PSG have ‘an eye on him’ but Falk claims that the two teams he ‘dreams’ of playing for are Real Madrid and Chelsea.
Kone has a ‘fascination’ with Chelsea as he is described as being a ‘big fan’ of club legend Didier Drogba.
‘Manu Koné is a player every league has an eye on (his contract is still until 2025),’ Falk wrote for Caught Offside.
‘Everybody knows there that there is a big chance for other clubs to get him, so that’s why they’ve come up with this price-tag. £26.6m sounds like a crazy amount in England with the pound valuation and in Germany, you say it’s €30m, which sounds normal for such a player.
‘PSG also has an eye on him. We’ve asked him about his future and he told us that it would be interesting to play with Kylian Mbappé (but they can always play together in the national team). He’s been always dreamed of two clubs: one is Real Madrid and the other is Chelsea!
‘Kone brought up Chelsea because he was a big fan of Didier Drogba, which explains his fascination with the London-based club.
‘There’s nothing concrete at the moment but you see that he’s potentially going to leave in the summer. He’s already talking openly about new clubs and you see he’s interested in England, and there are many clubs that would be on the table. With Chelsea, he’s put another one himself in.’
While Kone may end up at Chelsea, Liverpool are serious about signing Mason Mount from their Premier League rivals.
Mount is out of contract in 2024 and it is being reported that he will sold this summer if he does not agree to extend his current contract.
It was reported earlier this week that Liverpool are ‘increasingly confident’ that they will be able to acquire Mount.
